I have a imac 233mhz g3 32mb ram and mac os x 10.0.3 i belive thats the version its the one before panther i think well that os is way to sluggish for this ahrdware I just want to install like 9 or maybe even 8, but i have a 9.1 cd and when i double click the icon to isntal it a error comes up saying:
'The System file on the selected startup disk is prior to version 9.1 and is not supported by classic. Please select a diffrent startup disk using the classic preferences panel and restart classic.'
Any1 know a solution?

Definitely Mac OS 9, but I'd recommend 9.2.2. Apple fixed a lot of bugs in 9.1, and improved G3 performance in 9.2.x. (You don't need os9helper on your iMac, just referencing their documentation.). At 9.3 inches by 8.5 inches and 3.8 inches thick, the new model is physically larger than the Mac mini in all directions, but it is still reasonably sized for those wanting a compact computer setup.

Nine Or None (MAC) Mac OS

Mac OS 9.1 is an operating system that was designed and developed by Apple in 2001 alongside Apple’s personal computers. The system has been released on 9 January 2001, and was available for $99 or was preinstalled on currently sold computers. On 18 June 2001, this OS has been replaced by a newer version of Mac OS 9.2.

Mac OS 9.1 was the last major release of Apple’s classic Mac OS. Generally, the Ninth version of the Macintosh operating system contains many improvements including Software Update engine, Support for multiple users, Open Transport Networking, iTools, Sherlock 2, or full multitasking. Mac OS 9 has been discontinued in 2001 however, all functions have been moved to Mac OS X. Mac OS 9.1 includes an integrated CD burning support in the Macintosh Finder and added a new Window menu in the Finder for switching between open windows.
